I want to sponsor an extern because I understand the value of opportunity for young people of color to learn skills and gain real-life work experience with companies. Many years ago, a manager hired me as her Macmillan intern because my resume was straightforward, and I did not have any fancy internship experience or skill set. She said she chose me because she wanted to give college students who didn’t have any other experiences a chance, and I’ve always been grateful for that opportunity. I want to pay it forward by sponsoring an extern to enhance their skills and explore career options in publishing. Students learn many practical skills in the classroom, but putting them into practice in the real world will set them apart from other candidates when they apply for jobs.

Diversifying our talent pool is critical for our company's success. I believe that the work of marketing (shaping perceptions, crafting messaging) offers unique opportunities for an extern to contribute to a meaningful project that would add substance to their portfolio - even in just a few weeks. Additionally, representation matters. As one of the few BIPOCs at the Director level in our organization, I believe that students from groups who have been traditionally under-represented in publishing and educational technology would be encouraged by seeing a woman of color lead a team within our organization. Colvin really impressed the selection committee with his intelligence, drive, and clarity of vision. I look forward to working with Colvin over the next few weeks, learning from him, and supporting his career development.

During the externship, I am excited to expand my knowledge and experience in social media marketing. Being able to create content and build engagement for a target audience is exciting. Still, my goal is to learn the importance of market research and social media optimization through this externship.

With the start of a new academic year, some institutions have changed email requirements for students. If your students need to update their iClicker email address, they can do so in the profile section of the student app at any time. They should not create a new iClicker student account if they already have one! When students create multiple accounts, it can cause problems and confusion for administrators, instructors, and students themselves. Share the instructions below with your students to help them update their iClicker profile information. Tip: Instructors can always edit the email address associated with their iClicker profile, too. Sign in to your iClicker student account You can open your iClicker student app on your smartphone or tablet, or sign in via a web browser on any device. Select the menu icon
Select "Profile"
Edit your profile information as needed If your iClicker points currently aren't appearing in your instructor's gradebook, check the information listed in your profile to ensure it is correct and update it as needed:
You may want to make sure that the First and Last Name in your iClicker student app profile match the name you use in your campus Learning Management System (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard, Brightspace, etc.).
Make sure your university Email appears here.
Make sure the CanvasID, Blackboard username, or whatever you use to log in to your online course portal appears in the Student ID field. Check your instructor’s directions if you’re unsure what ID to use.
You can also change your iClicker account password or register an iClicker remote from your profile.
The iClicker student mobile app saves changes automatically. If you are using the iClicker student web app, you will need to select Save Changes before exiting or returning to your courses.
Please note that even after updating your iClicker student account with the correct information, your iClicker points may not appear right away in your instructor's gradebook. This is because your instructor chooses when to transfer grades from iClicker to their gradebook; some add grades weekly or even less frequently throughout the term. Your points should appear the next time they transfer grades. The best way to keep track of your current iClicker points is to refer to the Statistics and Class History sections in the iClicker student app.

Need to keep your iClicker question screenshots and results under wraps until after all your class sections have met for the week? We have all the details you need to control exactly how you hide and share your Polling details.
Before Class: Turn Off Screenshot Sharing Sign in to the iClicker Cloud instructor website, select your course, and select Settings.
Select the Polling tab of your course settings. Under Sharing, select Do not send a picture of my screen. You can also select Do not send results. The changes you make to your settings will apply to all future iClicker class sessions. When you are satisfied with your choices, click Save. Do this for each relevant iClicker Cloud course. Note: You may also wish to keep Polling questions ungraded until all class sections have met. You can grade questions after class through your Class History.
This is what students will see in class when you ask Polling questions. They will not receive a screenshot of your screen with the question (however, they will receive a screenshot if you choose to ask a Target question). They will see a message that the question was "Hidden by Instructor."
After Class/After All Class Sections Have Met: Turn On Screenshot Sharing Once you are ready to share questions screenshots and/or results with your students, go to the Class History for each course and click on the poll you wish to share.
Click the three dots in the upper-right corner to open Poll Settings.
In the Poll Settings window, check the appropriate boxes to share questions images and/or results with the students in this course. Click Save. Do this for each relevant section of your course.
After you have shared your screenshots with all of your class sections, students will be able to review those polling questions and bookmark them to use in the Study Tools section of their app.

iClicker offers student engagement for every scenario, whether you teach in-person, hybrid, or completely virtual classes or are unsure how your term will end up. In-Person If you’re teaching in-person, it may have been a while since you’ve used iClicker in the classroom! Remember that you can enable physical remotes in iClicker Cloud—and new remotes now come with 5-year student app subscriptions for ultimate flexibility. We also offer Attendance with an optional geolocation setting to help get students to class and our Focus feature helps students stay on task once there. Hybrid and Virtual
iClicker works just as well in hybrid or virtual classes, so in case you have to pivot from in-person learning midway through the term, you can continue to use iClicker Cloud. If you’re using iClicker Classic, you can still use the same instructor software—simply enable the student app in your Mobile settings. Here are some tips for a seamless transition to hybrid or virtual learning:
Remember that bases and remotes only work in face-to-face classes. However, even if your students previously used remotes, they should already have their iClicker accounts set up and should already be enrolled in your course. If they purchased a new iClicker remote, they also would have received a five-year digital subscription upon registering their remote in the student app. Students will simply open up your course in the mobile or web app and respond to questions there, whether synchronously or asynchronously.
If you had set a location requirement for in-person attendance, you’ll need to turn that off in your settings to let your students join class from wherever they may be.
You may also wish to disable Focus, as it tracks the time students spend outside of the iClicker app. This is especially helpful for students who only have one device they are using to both access class via a video conferencing app AND participate in the iClicker student app.
iClicker’s new Assignments activity is a great way to engage students as they watch recorded lectures, but it’s also great for pre-class and post-class questions and group work/breakout activities in synchronous classes.

Adding iClicker questions to your lecture deck is an easy process but coming up with content can be challenging. As you work on writing iClicker polling questions, ask yourself the following questions:
What higher-order thinking does this iClicker question require? Sometimes we want to know if students simply remember a concept, but we want to use iClicker questions to emphasize skills like analysis and application. Instead of asking a question that only requires a good memory (“What are the three parts of the brain?”), ask questions that require memory as well as higher-order thinking (“What part of Janice’s brain is most active when she reminisces about a walk across a balance beam?”)
What wrong conclusions do my students often come to when faced with this kind of question? Identify the common wrong conclusions students come to and include them as tempting wrong answers in your multiple-choice questions. This gives you the opportunity to address misconceptions directly. It also increases the difficulty level of your questions.
How many of my students are going to get this iClicker question wrong? A good polling question presents a real challenge to your students. No one likes when a game is too easy! This also creates an opportunity for a Think-Pair-Share activity. Ask your students an iClicker question but don’t reveal the correct answer. Instead, display the results and have students work in pairs to try and convince one another of the correct answer. Ask the same polling question again to see how their responses have shifted. This will give students a chance to learn by doing and you the chance to observe their thinking process.
How does this connect to my quizzes and exams? Students find iClicker questions particularly valuable when they can clearly connect their iClicker questions to the questions they’re asked on more formal assessments. Retired assessments can be a great place to find fresh iClicker questions as well.
