Remediation Remix

What is Remediation?

Remediation is re-presenting something from one medium through another. In other words, you are changing the form of a particular material, such as an essay, into another form, such as a magazine. When you are remediating, you do your best to maintain the original material's essential features, and the original's intent must be decipherable, while also adhering to the aspects and audience of the new medium.

The Assignment

You are to remediate your Research Paper into a different genre. At the bottom of the page there are recommended genres that you can remediate your paper into. If there is another genre you like to remediate your paper into, please see me. When remediating your paper you need to make sure that the integrity and thoroughness of your research paper is intact in your remediation. Therefore if you chose to remediate your paper into a flyer, you would need to create multiple flyers as to uphold the integrity of your paper. Just doing one flyer won't entirely capture the main arguments/topics of your paper. It needs to be clear what your argument of your paper is in your remediation.

Proposal

Before you start you must submit a Proposal for what you plan on doing for the remediation. Your submission should include the following: (1) The genre you want to remediate your paper into, (2) why you think this is a good genre for your remediation, (3) How you plan on going about creating the remediation, (4) Any questions you have about doing your remediation. This should be submitted on Canvas by the end of the day Friday, Nov. 18th. However, you can submit your proposal anytime before Nov. 18th. The sooner, the better. I will provide feedback.

Rationale

In addition to the remediation, you will need to also submit a minimum 500-word rationale explaining the choices you made to remediate your paper into the selected genre when you submit your remediation. Essentially, you want to explain why you believe your remediation is successful. Detail the conventions of the genre you selected; explain the audience you are targeting and how; what rhetorical appeals you are using, etc. Also, talk about the goal you wished to achieve with the remediation.

Proposed Genres
  • Newspaper Article
  • Magazine Article
  • Informative video
  • Podcast
  • Project Poster
  • Blog
  • Collection of Flyers
  • Short Book
  • Brochure/Pamphlet
  • Infographic
  • Instagram page

Tips

This is not just you copying and pasting your paper into a new genre, you will have to modify it (ex: if you do a podcast, you would not just read your paper, you would make it conversational based, where maybe you are responding to questions that your paper discusses/answers)

You can work with a partner or with a group. However, both or all papers are still expected to be remediated in a clear and equal manner. Quality and expectations may be higher if you work with a partner or group.
Don't procrastinate on this project, it may take more time than you think it will Consider who you want to appeal to when remediating your paper into another genre Consider what is unique about each genre listed (or not listed) and what aspects of that genre make it what it is, and then remediate your paper in your selected genre in accordance to those aspects
