Freewriting Portfolio

Assignment by Mckenzie Bergan, Bedford New Scholar 2024

Major Course Move & Learning Objective

Determine principles of search, selection and organization and create a purposeful assemblage using collected artifacts for your audience (Collecting and Curating)

Context

Thus far this semester, you have engaged with various monsters through the lens of “Monster Theory”, contextualized and theorized about a field of research, and circulated your theories among your classmates. You have also spent at least 5 minutes each class freewriting about our class inquiry, building a substantial record of how your thoughts have evolved throughout the semester. Now you will collect and curate these pieces of writing, as well as any of the other small assignments and major projects you have built this semester, to create a visual assemblage of a freewriting portfolio.

Task

Using all materials created in this class, but especially the freewriting you did each class, you will create a visual assemblage of your work this semester. Using a program like Google Slides, Canva, or Google Jamboard, you will show the way your thinking has evolved throughout the course. Your collage should include at least 5 excerpts from your freewriting prompts as well as any other meaningful work you did throughout the semester that you’d like to include. Your project should also include at least 3 footnotes of 100-150 words each that reflect on and investigate connections between the different texts you have included, as well as exploring how your thinking has evolved throughout the course.

Your project should gesture towards how you situate yourself in relation to the course inquiry: What are monsters and why do we make them? You may include thoughts on the different modes you engaged with, the various genresexplored, or the ideas that we thought about in class. Your collage should include both linguistic text as well as images that reflect your thinking.
