- Class Activity: Unplugged Challenge
Class Activity: Unplugged Challenge
Goal: To help students realize how social media affects their lives
Time: 20 minutes
1. Ask students to turn all electronics off for one day. This includes cell phones, computers, televisions, iPods, and so on.
2. Have them keep a journal throughout the day and record how the lack of technology is affecting their day. Their final journal entry should describe how they feel the technology-free day changed the day, if at all.
3. Discuss students’ experiences and share journal entries during class to help them understand how dependent they are on their electronic devices. Discuss the pros and cons of this dependence. Note that some students will likely relay varying degrees of discomfort with their technology-free day. It would be interesting to discover what made some students more or less comfortable than other students.
