Class Activity: Tweeting for News Promotion and Contribution
Goal: Have students create effective tweets based on news stories and discuss the ease or difficulty to do so.
Time: 20 minutes
1. Pair students, and give each pair copies of four or five print newspaper or magazine stories.
2. For each story, have the student pairs write at least three story-related tweets—two that are trying to promote the story and drive traffic to the publication website, and one seeking reader involvement and contributions.
3. Have students pick one of the stories and share their tweets with the class.
4. Facilitate a discussion in which you ask the following questions: How difficult was it to create the tweets for these stories? Was it easier for some stories than for others?
